Located close to Daylesford in the spa country region of Victoria, Hepburn Springs is a quaint small town with an abundance of accommodation and attractions to suit all types of traveller requirements. The town is located amongst the largest concentration of mineral springs in Victoria. Name after Captain John Hepburn the town has a population of just over 1000 people. The town of Hepburn is often grouped together with the nearby town of Hepburn Springs and collectively called Hepburn Springs. Settled in 1850 by gold miners, predominantly by immigrants from Switzerland and Italy and to a lesser extent England,Germany,France,Ireland and China.

These days, the town is better known as a place dedicated to well-being and indulgence. A tourist destination where visitors can enjoy the many spas and sample the natural mineral water as-well as the massage retreats, restaurants, cafes, general store, galleries and shops.

Hepburn Springs is positioned snugly amongst the foothills of the Wombat State Forest in between 2 dormant volcanoes - Wombat Hill and Mount Franklin. Its a very attractive destination for travellers within a short drive from Melbourne. Forests and natural bushland surround the town, creating a peaceful environment for weekend getaways. The town boasts an array of antique shops, restaurants, The Chocolate Mill chocolate factory and the Old Macaroni Factory. Wombat Forest offers mapped day walks. Hepburn Lagoon Trail Rides caters for riders of all abilities to experience riding a horse through the Mt Prospect area. Hepburn Regional Park has a significant number of natural springs and historic remnants of the gold mining which originally led to the founding of the town. Mt Franklin is an extinct volcano, and offers picnic areas and views.

The region has Australia’s most abundant concentration of natural mineral springs. Over 60 are dotted around the area! Visitors are able to freely drink and bottle their own requirements , either from those which flow above ground, or from others which require hand pumping of the water. All are without cost to access and readily available.

Hepburn Springs has an extensive range of accommodation. The most inexpensive of these is the backpackers’ lodge. Wildwood YHA allows travellers on a budget to experience the many sites of the area, with basic accommodation at a budget price.

The town, though, is known for its luxurious weekends away. There are many ‘bed and breakfasts’, holiday houses and cottages, including Blue Cliffs Retreat which is set on 25 acres, and has its own lake. Beds have lovely white canopies to add to the romantic feel. Kundos has a range of properties including Kundos Air, Kundos Temple, Kundos Indulge and Kundos Water. Each property has a different style, to offer visitors a variety to choose from.

The hotels within the town include Hepburn At Hepburn, which offers one bedroom villas, with spa, a fireplace and such additional luxuries as an espresso machine.

The retreats and resorts, of which there are several, are an indulgent way to spend your stay at Hepburn Springs. They offer a range of therapies and massages to pamper the mind, the body and the soul. Rejuvenation is the key goal, in a relaxing environment. These are popular with couples, those on their honeymoon and small groups wanting a luxurious break away from the real world!
